Creating a home to “pass on”
This project designed a home for a family of four in a suburb of Tokyo where low-rise housing is widespread.
The family loved the city and wanted to live there for a long time, so they wanted a durable building with low environmental impact, and ideally a home that would age beautifully as well.
Although each family member was busy with their daily lives, they also wanted to cherish their time together at home, so we came up with a plan that would connect each person’s space so they could feel each other’s presence gently.
The staircase connecting the first and second floors is designed with wide steps, and the large open space between the top and bottom improves the visual sense and the flow of the underfloor air
conditioning.
In addition, steps are set from the kitchen to the living room on the second floor to match the roof slope, and the shared area is planned to have rhythm and depth while maximizing the solar panel
surface.
By actively using natural materials such as wool insulation and wooden fittings while improving insulation performance, we have taken into consideration the environmental impact and aging.
